The three C’s in life: choice, chance, change.
You must make the choice, to take the chance, if you want anything in life to change.

You may have noticed lots of Sailing photos on my site. It’s been a passion of mine for 40 years. It’s the only sport that has offered me absolute focus and relaxation at the same time. Sailing and sail racing metaphors have also given me a better understanding of life, business, and leadership.
Sailing teaches you to think Big Picture and to have a long-term strategy which can help you come out ahead on the water and in business. For example:
- Boat Handling while racing is all about teamwork and creating a flow.
- You also learn Strategy and Tactics and how to plan and deal with specific situations, adapt to change, and proactively identify the best tack with other boats nearby.
- In sail racing, the first boat to round the buoy is not always the winner. Without a strategy you can only react to what comes along.
- You must always have the right Equipment.
- The condition of the boat and redundancies matter.
- Environmental conditions are completely out of your control as you can’t control the direction of the wind. Whether navigating on the sea or in business you can however intuitively sense when conditions are about to change and make adjustments.
